Records Management provides information to University departments regarding the proper procedures for retaining and discarding University records. The program assists departments with complying with the University's Records Retention and Disposal Schedule, which is required by the Code of Maryland Regulations before a public record can be destroyed legally. The unauthorized alteration, defacement, destruction, removal, or concealment of a record is subject to the penalties set forth in Criminal Law Article, § 8-606, Annotated Code of Maryland. (For retention standards for records maintained by the Department of Public Safety and the Office of the Registrar, contact Michelle Solter Evers at 301.405.9277 or msolterevers@mercury.umd.edu.)

Forms Management works with University departments to encourage the use of less expensive methods of forms production and to reduce the number of forms being used at the University. At the end of each fiscal year, a Forms Management Activities Report is submitted to the University System of Maryland, which prepares a report covering all campuses for the Joint Budget and Audit Committee of the Maryland General Assembly.
