Traveler Type To Be Required on TAR

Effective Friday, November 13, 2015, a traveler type for each traveler will be required on the Travel Approval Request (TAR). This requirement applies to all employee and non-employee University travelers, including group travel participants. This change affects all TARs that are created, supplemented, or approved on Friday, November 13, 2015 or later.

Form preparers will select one of the following traveler types from a drop-down box on the TAR:

  • Faculty
  • Staff
  • Student (Education Abroad)
  • Student (Not Education Abroad)
  • Student Employee (Travel Related to Work)
  • Traveler Not Affiliated with UMD
  • Volunteer / Affiliate

Student Employee (Travel Related to Work) should be used only when a student employee is traveling for his/her job. For example, a student who works for the University and is going on an Education Abroad trip unrelated to his/her student employee position should be listed on the TAR as Student (Education Abroad).

Traveler Not Affiliated with UMD should be used for visitors and other travelers who do not have a formal relationship with the University.
