Business Reply Mail (BRM)

Business Reply Mail utilizes pre-addressed postcards or envelopes for which the University pays postage for only the mail pieces that are returned to it. BRM allows departments to limit postage costs for surveys and other items for which a reply is requested. There is a per-piece handling charge for this service in addition to the First-Class postage fee.

Qualified Business Reply Mail (QBRM)

Large volume users should consider using Qualified Business Reply Mail as it has a lower postage rate and handling fee. Additionally, since the QBRM return envelope is automation-compatible, transit time is reduced.

Return envelopes for Qualified Business Reply Mail must be imprinted with specific information required by the U.S. Postal Service. Envelopes will be tested and approved by the U.S. Postal Service prior to printing to verify that they are automation-compatible.

Obtaining Business Reply Return Envelopes

Return envelopes that meet U.S. Postal Service standards for Business Reply Mail and Qualified Business Reply Mail may be ordered from Printing Services.

Please note that the Business Reply Mail permit is held centrally by the University, and individual departments do not need to obtain a permit.
